Itsy Bitsy Pond

And everything went White

Had many days of beautiful weather and not much breeze. So I thought I’d try to make some white shuttles. It’s still difficult to keep them white, but I had great success with these. Have 3 pair up at the shop and another white pair needs sanding. But it will be up there too in a day or so. All roses.

There’s just something special to me about a white shuttle. Maybe because I get giddy when I can keep them white! lol I wash my hands and scrub them with a brush a few times, before I even start working with the clay. They seem to pick up dust in the air too, but I had no breeze and things just worked out. 🙂

This was a nice change, since the music finally quit playing in my head. I think that’s the longest I’ve ever had a song replay go on. lol Very distracting. I really need concentration and total focus when I make shuttles.

Green Bean update! Some of the vines are almost at the top of the trellis, and other’s are about half way. Already putting out flowers. I think the end of this week would be a good time to take another picture. I don’t know if you’re all burned out hearing about the green beans or not, but, I’m still fascinated by them. lol

That’s my rock thyme the shuttles are on. And they are blooming. I couldn’t resist taking a picture with it. It’s so pretty.

And around the spot where it grows, I decided the other morning to make a little teeny pond. So I took an old water basin, dug a hole, put in the basin, leveled it, put black plastic inside it and put in rocks. Then I filled it up with water. And after that, I put big rocks around the rim so you can’t see that part. I had gotten a very gentle water fountain that’s kind of different and placed it right near the teeny pond, just for sound affect I guess. Getting more pipe and water pump and more digging, yeah, no I wasn’t up for a big job. Just a little one. And it satisfied me. So that’s the newest addition to the garden. I like sitting there and meditate in the evening when the neighborhood quiets down. I need to plant something green around the big rocks and haven’t figured out that part yet. It will come to me later I guess.

I am so enjoying all my hollyhocks that are blooming now. Everywhere! Color color is all over the place!!!!  I love my garden the mostest right now. Wish it could stay this way for a few more months. So I’ll be taking more pictures later, just so I have them for memories to look at when next winter comes. 🙂 It’s beautiful here. I’m soaking in every bit of it too.

Once and I’m haunted

Many years ago, this movie came up on tv and I was enthralled with the music I heard in it. Haunted. I think I looked for a soundtrack for it and it wasn’t readily available at that time. But a few days ago, this movie came up again. I just happened on it flipping channels. I fell in love all over again and this time, I went after everything I could find about the actors/musicians. AND I found out there is a new movie released this year that continues the tale of these talented people. True story. Talk about being surprised!

This I grabbed from amazon. I hope I linked it off right for you to just pop over to Amazon to check it out. Search for “Once”. 🙂

When Glen Hansard opened his mouth to sing in the beginning of the movie, I instantly saw in his body language and sound, he was singing completely from his gut/heart/spirit and I was totally and completely pulled in from every sense I have. Pulled in, sucked into his beautiful singing/lyrics and guitar playing. His own songs. Also in collaboration with Marketa Irglova. Then a little later on in the movie, Marketa sings a solo sort of on the street, walking at night. Oh wow. That’s when I was stricken with a haunted sensation- just by her voice. Beautiful. Innocent. Heartfelt.  I don’t have the words, I really don’t. If you haven’t seen this first movie Once, I urge you to. Just for the music if nothing else.

It’s about Glen being an Irish street singer meeting Marketa one night. This was an Indi film. And it won a Oscar for best song.

The newest movie is like a documentary called “The Swell Season”, that follows them after they got that Oscar. I ordered it up. Can’t wait to see this. Again for the music. And to see what happens in their relationship and collaboration.

There is much about these beautiful people online. (At amazon and wikipedia) Glen played a bit part in the movie “The Commitments” his first part in movies as I recall. His band “The Frames” has a big following elsewhere, maybe not so much in the states. Glen put out a solo album too, I ordered that as well. And Marketa did the same. I’ll get to that later. I wanted to watch their second movie first. 🙂

For the past few days, I’ve taken off crafting and have been rerunning all the songs from Once. Like when you get that song stuck in your head you can’t shake. I’ve have this going on for awhile. 🙂 I really should order the sound track CD for it. lol

Tat a tat tat

I know it’s been awhile since I posted here, but I had been super busy. It’s summer time and most people are traveling or playing outdoors. I did promise that once the green beans started climbing, I’d take a picture of the trellis. Well, they are climbing up on it and just for fun, I think I’ll take another picture when they’ve grown half way .

I have Virgina Creeper growing behind it 🙂 Hopefully it will cover that one window so there will be more shade.

The trellis is holding up really well to all the weather we’ve had. So far so good.

As to my summer tatting,…I gifted a neighbor with an anklet and she just loved it. Wore it everywhere, every day. She told me it made her feel extra “pretty”. lol Then requests for more poured in as she received so many complements on hers! Didn’t think I’d be doing so many of those! But you know me,…I can do a few of something and then it’s on to the next thing! So I thought a few for the shop would be good and then that’s that!

I modified an antique lace edging pattern a little bit and added beads to make them.

Every summer I make a new anklet and have for years. I love anklets! But I think these are my favorite one’s. When I’m in the mood to do more, I’ll do darker flower colors I think. About the time I was done making several of these, I came into some very expensive silk thread. Knowing that tatting with silk has a few challenges, one being gardener hands! lol  (snag snag snag) The other is it often makes tatting designs floppy. I had gotten a larger sized silk thread and designed something simple and elegant that didn’t flop. Those are up at the shop.

Let’s see, oh yes, working with flat yarn shuttles. I designed a amulet bag for a friend’s special day in a few months. I liked it so much, I made one for myself and one for the shop too!  I did say I’d been busy didn’t I? lol  I was still in dragon scale design mode at the time.

My bday was uneventful. Because my husband is mostly an invalid, I had loads of chores to do around the place and I shop for a month’s worth of food at a time. Summer is so busy and there is only one of me to do all that needs doing. I should of had more kids is a refrain. But I didn’t. There just isn’t very much help available, even for hire. So I muddle along, taking one thing at a time. I figure, it will all get done before next winter, or it won’t. lol

My sketch pad is loaded up with new patterns and ideas that just won’t quit. I don’t have enough time to get to even half of it. It’s one thing at a time with that as well.

Hopefully this week,…I’ll be able to just take a day or two off, make arrangements for hubby to be cared for and go help a dear friend who’s fighting cancer and enduring chemo. We just found out about it two months ago. I don’t even have the words. It’s horrid. The treatment for it is extremely harsh. I’m praying for the cure. I know our time together will be special though.

Each day that comes brings something to me. I’m grateful for each breath. Each idea of something I can do, or to make a little pretty that adds delight or a smile is important to me. And in every day, even dealing with tough stuff, I’m looking for a bit of joy. I find it often. And I cling to it!

best wishes of comfort, joy, delight and blessings to all who read this. I’m off now, chores to do!
