Tat a tat tat

I know it’s been awhile since I posted here, but I had been super busy. It’s summer time and most people are traveling or playing outdoors. I did promise that once the green beans started climbing, I’d take a picture of the trellis. Well, they are climbing up on it and just for fun, I think I’ll take another picture when they’ve grown half way .

I have Virgina Creeper growing behind it 🙂 Hopefully it will cover that one window so there will be more shade.

The trellis is holding up really well to all the weather we’ve had. So far so good.

As to my summer tatting,…I gifted a neighbor with an anklet and she just loved it. Wore it everywhere, every day. She told me it made her feel extra “pretty”. lol Then requests for more poured in as she received so many complements on hers! Didn’t think I’d be doing so many of those! But you know me,…I can do a few of something and then it’s on to the next thing! So I thought a few for the shop would be good and then that’s that!

I modified an antique lace edging pattern a little bit and added beads to make them.

Every summer I make a new anklet and have for years. I love anklets! But I think these are my favorite one’s. When I’m in the mood to do more, I’ll do darker flower colors I think. About the time I was done making several of these, I came into some very expensive silk thread. Knowing that tatting with silk has a few challenges, one being gardener hands! lol  (snag snag snag) The other is it often makes tatting designs floppy. I had gotten a larger sized silk thread and designed something simple and elegant that didn’t flop. Those are up at the shop.

Let’s see, oh yes, working with flat yarn shuttles. I designed a amulet bag for a friend’s special day in a few months. I liked it so much, I made one for myself and one for the shop too!  I did say I’d been busy didn’t I? lol  I was still in dragon scale design mode at the time.

My bday was uneventful. Because my husband is mostly an invalid, I had loads of chores to do around the place and I shop for a month’s worth of food at a time. Summer is so busy and there is only one of me to do all that needs doing. I should of had more kids is a refrain. But I didn’t. There just isn’t very much help available, even for hire. So I muddle along, taking one thing at a time. I figure, it will all get done before next winter, or it won’t. lol

My sketch pad is loaded up with new patterns and ideas that just won’t quit. I don’t have enough time to get to even half of it. It’s one thing at a time with that as well.

Hopefully this week,…I’ll be able to just take a day or two off, make arrangements for hubby to be cared for and go help a dear friend who’s fighting cancer and enduring chemo. We just found out about it two months ago. I don’t even have the words. It’s horrid. The treatment for it is extremely harsh. I’m praying for the cure. I know our time together will be special though.

Each day that comes brings something to me. I’m grateful for each breath. Each idea of something I can do, or to make a little pretty that adds delight or a smile is important to me. And in every day, even dealing with tough stuff, I’m looking for a bit of joy. I find it often. And I cling to it!

best wishes of comfort, joy, delight and blessings to all who read this. I’m off now, chores to do!

Love finishing things!

I got some thumb shuttles boxes made. I really liked this one the best, even if it is christmasy. 🙂

I finished the green bean trellis!!!  Yes I did! And in the nick of time too! The green beans are all up about 3 inches now. The trellis, this go round, came out absolutely perfect . The measurements were exact across and all the way down to barely the ground. I was so surprised!  I just guessed at it again, with the prior learning from the one that’s now on the porch. Thing is, it’s hard to get a picture of it because the yarn is thin. When I tried to take a picture, it just disappeared. lol  So I’ll wait till the beans start climbing on it and then take a picture. I just can’t tell you how relieved I am!  It looks good too. Just as I imagined it from the beginning in my mind’s eye. 🙂

When I was younger, I rarely finished a project. It was a big personality issue. But I do remember one day, being upset at all these beginning projects and I made a vow to myself. Don’t start something if you really don’t have your heart into it. What I learned from that time was I needed to really have a passion for something I started, then it was motivation to continue till it’s done. So the trellis is done. And I finished two more pairs of dragon scales thumb shuttles. I have to buffed them and get them photographed. But I’m so happy to finish all these things I started. It’s a weight lifted.

We are all still missing Jake. This is going to take time.

I had to cover the tomato’s, it’s been raining and cold every day for over a week. No sign yet of that changing. Just lucky we didn’t get snow!  That’s happened before in June here.

And I just added these to the Etsy Store this morning.

Yesterday afternoon, it dried out and I mowed grass. It started raining again just the second I was done and put the mower away! lol But that’s out of the way.

Sometimes, I have a long range project going in the background. I have one right now that is knit cord, and I’m making enough of it to actually weave a basket. I love basket weaving and especially love these knit one’s I’ve done. They are thick and bulky and soft. I’ll have to take a picture of the last one I made. The new one is forest colors. 🙂 I haven’t finished weaving the bottom part yet. It takes more time than anyone really wants to spend on a basket. Just knitting the cord takes months. That’s why it’s a long range project. I just work on it, when I get other things done first. And it’s mindless. I love having a mindless project to work on while I watch tv. Making knitted cord does that for me.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before or not, but several months ago, I was meditating and had an experience I really don’t have words for.  Since that day, the creativity and ideas for making things, hasn’t quit. They keep coming in fast and furious. I’ve never experienced such a wild time of ideas! But it’s been wonderful. And much of it has to do with things I haven’t done before. So there’s adventure! lol

I’ve been keeping a notebook just for the idea’s I can’t get to yet. But I’m having such a wonderful time creating.

Well, I’ve blathered on as many topics as I can do for the moment. I had a new idea for a design I need to try out on more shuttles. I best get to it.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, doing something they love to do. Finish a project!!!!! (snickers):)

Tatted Lace Green Bean Trellis

Last year, my green beans over grew their wire trellis and grew all along the back side of it and then started up onto the wall of the house. What did I learn?  That these were the best green beans I ever grew before and that little trellis wasn’t going to work for this year. So I decided to “net” one. Like a salty old sailor, sitting around netting. Then I thought I could tat one just as easily since I couldn’t find my netting shuttle. I began yesterday. Of course I don’t know what I’m doing. lol Does that stop me though? No.

I know other tatter’s who garden have had the same idea. So it’s not a new one. I’ve netted a hammock before and thought it would be similar.

Okay, so I got a ladder, climbed up and measured how long I’d need. 8 feet, by 8 feet, maybe by 10, we’ll see. I’m going to hang it from the roof beams and I thought,….I’ll crochet more than 8 feet of just chain,….get those metal hook eyes and attach those to the exposed beam ends and run the chain through that. Then I’ll tie on the trellis. Hey, when you don’t know what your doing, you just make it up as you go along. I might get this right first try. We’ll see. 🙂

One thing I learned already is that it’s too big for me to work in the house. Now what do I do? I think I’ll have to go hang this, (by tying it to) my clothes line and finish it from there. I couldn’t think of another place to hang it to work on it! lol  Oh mercy, this could be a mistake! haha

And in other news, here,….in my tiny world,….I spent the last 4 days making rose decorated shuttles and one of them screamed at me that I shouldn’t sell it, cause I wanted to have some fun with it.

Now I don’t, god I get tired of saying this, but it’s just true, I don’t know about a Trading Contest. Don’t know how to set one up, sighs,…..my idea is that, I want to trade these Thumb Shuttles for a pair of Tatted Original Design Earrings. Now how to get the word out? How do I set up such a thing? Should I even bother? And if I did figure it out, how to post all those entries for a trade? So many unknowns as of yet. But I’ll post this picture of the shuttles I have in mind to trade and I’ll ask around for some advise and help from online 🙂

Trading Stock

Now if you mosey on by this blog, and you have suggestions for me, please leave a comment 🙂 Thanks!  And now I’ll trundle along my merry way to shuttling a foot more of trellis 🙂
